Earthly Muse Reviews

I absolutely love a good cup of tea. And what is better than a cup of tea? A pot of tea, of course! My daughter and I recently visited Lettie Mae's Tea Room in Morris, IL. I wasn't sure what to expect from a tea room since, I typically am far too cheap or chronically underdressed for such a place. To say I was impressed would be an understatement.

We entered at the end of the lunch hour, in fact, we weren't sure if they would still be accepting customers. The serving hours end mid afternoon. We opened the doors and the customer seating was surprisingly still bustling and we were warmly welcomed and promptly sat at a nice table out of the way.

The server was very friendly and quickly caught on we had never been there before. The explanation of the flavors of tea, specials, and every day menu items were really helpful. I had the chicken cranberry slider. It is a perfectly sized slider bun with a nice sized helping of chicken salad. The plate was nicely dressed with seasonal fruit and potato chips. Which for me was a nice slice of orange and pineapple. There was an option for soup: Cold Strawberry and Tomato Basil Tortellini.

I had never had cold strawberry soup and figured it was time to change that. It was like having a velvety desert before even eating my main course. The soup and slider are served together which I liked. I do have one downfall and, since I have plans to visit the tea room again really soon, it isn't enough of a down fall to stop me from visiting frequently. The potato chips are my only complaint, and complaint is a really strong word for this situation. I don't really love potatoes but most people do. I wish there had been a different option. I was not aware that I would get such a big helping so I didn't think to ask.

I also had the caramelized pear tea. I feared that tea selection could be too heavy for this warm time of year but I was pleasantly surprised. I did add sugar to the tea because I love, love, love sweet tea. It would have been pleasantly flavored with out the sugar.

The decor was cute and creative. Small feminine hankies adorn the tops of the windows and aprons hanging from the ceiling. Cute but not distracting. Cost was affordable. I nice lunch that won't break the bank.

This is one of my new favorite places to eat. While the slider isn't a large portion of food, it was enough for me. I did see a lot of customers that ordered other entrees and received much larger portions of food. The pot of tea is the real deal. If they had take-out for pots of tea that could be a real winner. Kinda like coffee in a box from DD but instead tea in a take-out pot. I know I would buy it. The service is amazing. Warm and welcoming from the start even though we visited late in the day for them. This is such a wonderful location for lunch with your grandma to small clutch to discuss business over lunch.
